WE PRAY THAT YOU CONTINUE TO POUR YOUR BLESSINGS OUT ON THESE COMMUNITIES AND WE SEE THEM WORKING EVERY DAY. LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO AND FOR WHO YOU ARE.

>> MAYOR: REGULAR AGENDA ITEM 2023-. THE DFW DIRECTORS ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT AWARD CLASS 2 FOR THE BEATS CONCERT SERIES. IT IS MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE MATT YOUNG, HE IS THE TREASURER OF THE DFW DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICES IN THE CITY OF MANSFIELD.

I'M SURE MR. YOUNG WILL ELABORATE FOR THEIR SUMMER AND FALL CONCERT SERIES.

HAS ONE THIS AWARD. MR. YOUNG? >> THINK YOU.

IT IS MY PLEASURE TO BE HERE TONIGHT ON THE BEHALF OF THE DFW AREA PARKS AND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION. WE ARE A NONPROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT IS MADE UP OF DIRECTORS AND SENIOR MANAGERS FROM AROUND TEXAS. MERELY TO SUPPORT THE CITIES AND HELP DEVELOP LEADERS WITHIN THE PARKS AND RECREATION FASHION.E MEET QUARTERLY AT HER MOST RECENT MEETING WE HELD OUR ANNUAL AWARDS PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS IN DENTON. AT THE TIME, MIDLOTHIAN WAS SELECTED FOR ONE OF THE AWARDS.

FIRST, I WANT TO BRAG A LITTLE BIT. I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH SEVERAL TEAM MEMBERS IN THE CITIES. I'M SURE YOU KNOW THIS, THEY ARE ALL OUTSTANDING WOMEN AND TRUE PARKS AND REC NATIONALS. YOU'RE LUCKY TO HAVE THEM.'M SURE YOU KNOW THAT. I WORKED WITH THEM VERY CLOSELY IN THE PAST.

I WANT TO READ AN EXCERPT FROM THE UNORDERED NOMINATION. MET THE CITIZENS REQUEST FOR LIVE MUSIC BY DEVELOPING THE BEATS CONCERT SERIES. LOCAL BANDS PLEAD FULL SET SHOWS AT THE AMPHITHEATER AND FREE SITTING ON LAWN FOR ATTENDEES.HEY WERE HELD ON FRIDAY NIGHTS IN JUNE, JULY, AND AUGUST AND WERE WILDLY SUCCESSFUL.

THE COMMUNITY ASKED FOR MORE AND GOT MORE DATES IN SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER.

THEY CAME OUT IN FORCE. YOU BROUGHT THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER IN PRESENTING A PROGRAM AND THAT'S WHAT PARKS AND RECREATION MAKES SO AWARDING.

IT IS MY HONOR ON THE BEHALF OF THE DFW DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION TO PRESENT THE 2023 ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT AWARD TO THE CITY OF MIDLOTHIAN'S PART AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT FOR THE BEATS CONCERT SERIES. [APPLAUSE]

>> SPEAKER: COULD EVEN COUNSEL. M LORI YOUR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING FOR THE STATE OF MIDLOTHIAN. I'M VERY EXCITED TO BE PRESENTING TONIGHT TO BE BRINGING YOU THE RECOMMENDATION FOR THE NEW LINE AND LOGO FOR THE CITY OF MIDLOTHIAN.

THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER CREATIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS HERE TONIGHT.

PLEASE KNOW THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AS WELL. I WANT TO BRIEFLY SUMMARIZE THE MATERIALS YOU GOT IN YOUR POCKET THIS WEEK. MAINLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVIEWING THE PROCESS THAT WE'VE GONE THROUGH TO GET US TO THIS POINT.

AS YOU KNOW, BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN INVOLVED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY, THE PROCESS HAS BEEN THOROUGH AND EXTENSIVE. AND IT HAS INCLUDED 3 PHASES. THE RESEARCH PHASE, THE CREATIVE PHASE, AND ULTIMATELY THE ABLE MENTATION PHASE. THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT, I KNOW YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THEY INCLUDE EVALUATING THE CITY'S BRAND IDENTITY IN ORDER TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY IN THE EXPRESSION OF THE BRAND THROUGH GRAPHIC ELEMENTS IN OTHER WAYS.

ANOTHER GOAL IS TO CREATE ALIGNMENT BETWEEN THE IDENTITIES OF THE CITY OF THE MIDLOTHIAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND ALSO MIDLOTHIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.

THE TIMING OF THIS PROJECT WAS PRECIPITATED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF OUR NEW LIBRARY CITY HALL THAT IS GOING ON. THE REVITALIZATION OF DOWNTOWN AND THE PLAN MONUMENT SIGN PROGRAM. ALL OF THOSE EVENTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO TAKE STOCK OF OUR BRANDING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE PRESENTING A STRONG COHESIVE VOICE FOR THE FUTURE. AS I MENTIONED, MIDLOTHIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND MIDLOTHIAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT HAVE BOTH OPTED TO PARTNER WITH THE CITY IN THIS EFFORT WHICH CREATED A LOT OF EFFICIENCIES AND COST STATEMENTS FOR EVERYBODY INVOLVED.HE OVERARCHING GOAL OF ALIGNING THESE ENTITIES WILL HELP TO INCREASE CITIZEN AWARENESS, UNDERSTANDING, AND APPRECIATION FOR ALL THE WORK THAT IS PUT INTO MAKING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR THE CITIZENS. HAVING A COHESIVE IDENTITY INCREASES THE CHANCES THAT CITIZENS WILL RECOGNIZE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ENTITIES AND ALSO MAKE THE CONNECTION.

RIGHT NOW, THIS IS HOW EACH OF THESE ENTITIES APPEAR. AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE IS NO COORDINATION IN THE BRANDING. THERE IS A LOT OF LOST OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE THOSE MESSAGES HOME, PARTICULARLY THERE'S A LOT OF COMPETITION IN THE WORLD FOR PEOPLE'S ATTENTION. SO, JUST TO RETRACE, OUR RESEARCH FOR THIS PROGRAM STARTED BACK IN JUNE AND THE PURPOSE OF THAT WAS TO FOCUS ON UNCOVERING WHAT MIDLOTHIAN CITIZENS REALLY VALUE ABOUT THE COMMUNITY AND WHAT THEY THINK MAKES US DIFFERENT.

THE RESEARCH INCLUDED, INITIALLY THE CONSULTANTS IMMERSING THEMSELVES IN ALL

THINGS MIDLOTHIAN. THEY REVIEWED OUR MARKETING MATERIALS, OUR PREVIOUS RESEARCH, AND ARE PLANNING DOCUMENTS EXTENSIVELY. THEN, THERE WAS A SERIES AND A VARIETY OF IN PERSON ACTIVITIES INCLUDING 13 ONE-ON-ONE STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS WITH COUNCILOR MEMBERS, BOARD CHAIRS. PROVIDED INFORMATION INPUT INTO THE PROCESS. THEN THERE WAS COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE THAT ATTRACTED 30 INDIVIDUALS AND SOME OF THEM BRAND-NEW. THE INPUT FROM THE IN PERSON RESEARCH LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNITY SURVEYS. THERE WAS 361 RESPONSES TO A COMMUNITY INTERNAL SURVEY AND 313 RESPONSES TO A CONSUMER AWARENESS AND PERCEPTION SURVEY. ALL THE PROVIDED A WEALTH OF INFORMATION FOR THIS PROJECT AND ALSO PROBABLY FUTURE PROGRESS. COUNSIL ALL RECEIVED A COPY OF THE RESEARCH IN THEIR POCKETS. IT IS THICK. THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION THERE. I DID WANT TO REVIEW SOME OF THE MOST COMPELLING FINDINGS FROM THAT RESEARCH.T WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MIDLOTHIAN THAT SETS THE COMMUNITY APART.

LET'S GO OVER WHAT THESE CHARACTERISTIC STAR. OUR RESPONDENTS BELIEVE IN MANY DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE SURVEYS THAT WE HAVE GREAT SCHOOLS, WE ARE CONVENIENTLY LOCATED, WE RECEIVE COMMUNITY, A GREAT PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY. WE VALUE OUR FAITH COMMUNITIES.

WE VALUE OUR AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE, WE POSSESS A ROLE SMALL TOWN CHARM.

WE HAVE VERY HIGH STANDARDS. WE OFFER A QUALITY OF LIFE AND OPPORTUNITIES.

WE ARE INDUSTRY FRIENDLY AND FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING. BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL.

WE HAVE A LOT OF POTENTIAL. HIS TRANSLATES INTO OUR CHARACTER.

THIS IS WHAT MAKES MIDLOTHIAN, MIDLOTHIAN. FROM THE RESEARCH, ALSO EMANATED OUR BRAND POSITIONING STATEMENTS. THIS IS NEW FOR BOTH OF US WE HAVE IDENTIFIED OUR TARGET AUDIENCE AS THOSE WHO ARE ATTRACTED TO THE TRADITION AND TRAJECTORY OF TEXAS AND THE SENSIBILITY OF A SMALL TOWN. THE FRAME OF REFERENCE IS MIDLOTHIAN. AT THE CONFERENCE OF DALLAS, ELLEN, AND TERRANCE COUNTIES, THE POINT IS THAT WE HAVE CARVED A FOUNDATION FOR FAMILIES AND ENTERPRISE IN THE BENEFIT SO THAT WE CAN HARVEST OPPORTUNITY WHILE HONORING OUR SMALL TOWN CHARM AND TRADITION.

THE STATEMENTS PROVIDED THE SPRINGBOARD FOR THE CREATIVE COMMITTEE TO MAKE THE RECOMMENDATION THAT OUR TAGLINE BE STRONG FOUNDATIONS AND BRIGHT FUTURES.

THIS TAGLINE EXPRESSES MIDLOTHIAN'S DISTINCT CHARACTERISTICS AND ESTABLISHES AN IDENTITY FOR MIDLOTHIAN IN ITS OWN RIGHT. APART FROM JUST ITS GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION. STRONG FOUNDATIONS, BRIGHT FUTURES.

IT BLENDS THE IDEAS OF TRADITIONAL PROGRESS, DELIVERING THE CORE OF THE POSITIONING STATEMENT SO YOU CAN HARVEST OPPORTUNITY WHILE HONORING SMALL TOWN CHARM AND TRADITION. STRONG FOUNDATIONS. ACKNOWLEDGES THE TIES OF THE CITIES INDUSTRIAL AND AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE, AS WELL AS ITS FAITH-BASED UNDERPINNINGS. BRIGHT FUTURES. WITH THE STAR AT THE CENTER, THE NEW LOGO RETAINS A POPULAR SYMBOL FOR WHICH MIDLOTHIAN IS KNOWN. SURROUNDING THE STAR WITH LOOSELY DESIGNED HARTS OR BUILDING BLOCKS ELEVATES THE IDEA THAT IT IS NOT ONLY A STAR BUT IT IS ALSO A HEART. WHILE BOTH THE START AND THE BOX REPRESENT THE STRONG FOUNDATION AND HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN THE HARTS RADIATE OUTWARD SHOWING POTENTIAL IN THE DYNAMIC FUTURE. THEY ALSO REPRESENT PEOPLE, IDEAS, BUSINESSES, ALL COMING TOGETHER IN CONTRIBUTING TO A THRIVING COMMUNITY. THE LOGO COLORS ARE ALSO PART

IT SPEAKS TO THE GROWTH THAT IS HAPPENING ALONG WITH THE NATURAL BEAUTY THAT EXISTS IN MIDLOTHIAN. THE GREEN SPACE, PARKS, TRAILS, TREES, AND OF COURSE OUR TOWN. THESE ARE APPLIED IN VARIOUS WAYS.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW IT MAY LOOK ON LETTERHEAD, STATIONERY, BUSINESS CARDS, AND MAYBE A CALENDAR OR A NOTEPAD IF YOU WILL. THIS IS HOW IT MIGHT LOOK ON ONE OF OUR VEHICLES. OR ON SOME OF OUR TRUCKS. ALL OF THESE WILL BE APPLIED OVER TIME, PHASED-IN ACCORDING TO THE NORMAL REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE.

APPRECIATE THE HARD EFFORT OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. LAST JULY, I POSED A POLE ON A CAMPAIGN PAGE OF MINE ABOUT THIS VERY TOPIC. I ASKED PEOPLE TO SIMPLE QUESTIONS. I SAID, ARE YOU FOR REBRANDING OF THE CITY OR ARE YOU AGAINST IT? I GOT BACK SOME VERY INTERESTING FIGURES THAT I DID NOT EXPECT TO GET BACK FROM THE PEOPLE. 250 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN 90 PERCENT OF THOSE PEOPLE WERE AGAINST THIS. LIKE I SAID, I WAS A LITTLE SHOCKED THAT IT WAS 90 PERCENT. CONSIDERING THAT 90 PERCENT OF PEOPLE OUT OF 250 PEOPLE SAMPLE

WERE AGAINST IT. I CANNOT SUPPORT IT. >> ARE YOU SAYING THAT 90 PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE PULLED IN THE FOCUS GROUP, YOU GOT THE SAME EXACT PEOPLE THAT

SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO CHANGE, SOME WANT TO CHANGE. EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION.

WHAT IT SHOULD SAY AND WHAT IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE. WHAT AREAS WE SHOULD STUDY AND WHAT AREAS WE SHOULD LEAVE ALONE. ONE OF THE THINGS I LEARNED WAS THAT CHANGE IS JUST A PART OF THE WAY WE GROW AND GROWING IS HEALTHY FOR A CITY.S LONG AS WE HAVE AN IDEA OF THE DIRECTION THAT WE WANT TO GO, IT IS NOT A BAD THING.

I SAW MY OPINIONS OF THE PROCESS CHANGE THROUGHOUT. I SAW MY FAVORITE LOGO AND TAGLINE MOLD THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS. I AM APPRECIATIVE OF THE

EFFORTS AND I SUPPORT THE OUTCOME. >> COUNCILMEMBER: I DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE ANY THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE LOGO ITSELF OTHER THAN JUST A FEW COMMENTS.

THE WHOLE PROCESS HAS BEEN INTERESTING TO ME EVEN SITTING HERE NOW.

IT IS AN EXCITED AND SAD FEELING AT THE SAME TIME. MOSTLY BECAUSE I LIKE OUR CURRENT LOGO. I FEEL LIKE MIDLOTHIAN AS A YOUNG CITY IS TRYING TO FIND ITS IDENTITY. WE HAVE ARGUED ABOUT ITS IDENTITY THROUGH DEVELOPMENT.

THIS IS THE FIRST STEP OF US OFFICIALLY PUTTING OURSELVES ON A STEPPINGSTONE TO THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT WE ARE OUR OWN CITY. WE ARE GOING TO STAND ON OUR OWN. IN THAT PART IT IS EXCITING. I AM EXCITED FOR ALL THE WORK

THAT HAS BEEN DONE IN THE LOGO, LOOKS GREAT! >> COUNCILMEMBER: I WILL ECHO GRATEFUL FOR THE TEAM AND THEIR TIME. I KNOW IT HAS BEEN A LONG AND THOROUGH PROCESS. ONE OF THE MORE THOROUGH ISSUES THAT WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE UPDATES AND MEETINGS ABOUT. ALL THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE AN APPRECIATION.

I WAS A HARD SELL. I GENUINELY LIKE THE PREVIOUS LOGO.

I'VE SAID ALL ALONG TO LORI THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO WANT ME TO GET MY VOTE.

I AM PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THE RESULTS OF THIS. I WILL RIP THIS BAND-AID OFF THOUGH. I'M NOT A HUGE FAN OF THE LITTLE GREEN CHECKMARK.

I THINK IT DRAWS YOUR EYE TO IT WHICH IT IS DESIGNED TO DO. IN DOING SO, IT MAKES THE SHAPES STAND OUT MORE THAN THE STAR IN MY OPINION. I KNOW THAT THERE WAS MULTIPLE OPTIONS THAT THE COMMITTEE VOTED ON, I WAS CURIOUS IF IT WAS A SPLIT VOTE.
