THESE STEPS HELP ENSURE WHEN BUSINESSES FACE CHALLENGES, WHETHER IT'S WITH ZONING, PERMITTING, LOCAL POLICY, STATE OR COUNTY, OR EVEN SCHOOL DISTRICT MATTERS.

ANNOUNCE AND SCHEDULE THE PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2526 ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGETS AND FISCAL YEAR 2526 TAX RATE INCREASE FOR THE CITY OF MIDLOTHIAN AND THANK YOU, MAYOR. SO THE BUDGET PROCESS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, BEGAN IN APRIL AND WE ARE NOW MARCHING THROUGH. AND SO TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO ANNOUNCE AND SCHEDULE THE PUBLIC HEARING ON THE ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET AND ALSO ON THE TAX RATE INCREASE. I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT WHEN WE SAY TAX RATE INCREASE, THAT IS A RETIREMENT OF THE CODE, AND THAT IS NOT MEANING THAT THE TAX RATE ITSELF IS GOING TO INCREASE.THE OVERALL TAX RATE THAT WE HAVE PROPOSED IS STILL THE 0.65 PER 100 VALUATION.

YOU ADDED A POOL, A PERGOLA, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.
THERE WAS ADDED PROPERTY IN THERE. SO THAT DOES MEAN THAT THERE WILL BE ABOUT 2.8 MILLION COLLECTIVELY THAT IS ASSESSED ACROSS ALL OF THE EXISTING PROPERTY THAT EXISTED LAST YEAR. SO THERE THERE WILL BE HIGHER TAX BILLS FOR SOME, AND THERE WILL BE NEW TAX BILLS FOR OTHERS THAT JUST PURCHASED A NEW HOME THAT'S NOW COMING ONTO THE ROLLS. SO WHILE THE RATE STAYS THE SAME, THE VALUATION PIECE, WHICH IS OUTSIDE OF OUR CONTROL AND HANDLED BY THE ELLIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT, YOU KNOW, WILL INCREASE SOME OF THE ACTUAL TAX BILLS THAT THAT RESIDENTS, YOU KNOW, RECEIVE AND BUSINESSES RECEIVE.
I MEAN, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE I DON'T I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE TO DO IT, BUT KIND OF THE BREAKDOWN IF WE IF WE COULD DO THAT OF HOW MUCH OF THAT, YOU KNOW, 2.8 ON EXISTING PROPERTY IS FROM, YOU KNOW, RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEAD PROPERTY VERSUS ALL OTHER PROPERTY IN THE CITY.
